ANGUS MACKENZIE states:-

I am Captain of the S.". "Hong Hwa", the local agent of which is Song Soon Hong, 14 Bonham Strand West, the owners being the Ho Hong Steamship Co., Ltd., Singapore. The ship flies the British flag, her port of registry being Singapore.

She is a passenger and cargo boat having accommodation for first, second and third class passengers. The ship usually runs between Hongkong, Singapore and Swatow. My ship left Singapore at 17.00 hours on the 7th January 1925 bound for Hongkong with a total of 357 passengers and a general cargo, there being no valuables or bullion shipped. Previous to leaving Singapore the ship was moored in the Singapore roads, the passengers being brought off in launches and sampans. Every thing went well until the 13th inst. and we steered the usual

There was a strong North-East monsoon blowing from the time we left until the morning of the 13th.

I showed him where they were, in a locked drawer. He then ordered me to get the key which was kept in another drawer and I complia at the point of the revolver. He unlocked the drawer and took

my two revolvers and anuntion out. I was then seized by the 4 pirates and led down to the starboard side of the boat deck

amidships, where I saw the first, second and third Engineers,

first and second officers and the Doctor, herded together with

their hands up and 6 armed pirates keeping guard. The pirate who spoke English appeared to be the leader of the gang and ceme to me and said "Are you the Captain?" I said, "Yes". He said
